Tesla Model S P100D Drag Races A Nitrous Pickup In An Epic Future vs Past Fight
Published January 6, 2017
Tesla Model S P85D, P90D and, recently P100D proved to the automotive world that we aren’t going to run out of exciting cars when everyone starts to drive on electrons. These machines with all-wheel drive, an insane amount of torque and engines no one can hear spin put the world of sportscars and supercars into a shame. They ruled the streets and they have ruled the drag strips over the last couple of years. This video proves the point by showing the Model S P100D run against a nitrous powered pickup truck. This is future vs past drag race. Stock Tesla Model S – a freaking seven-seat sedan – runs against the dialed up pickup truck.
With 14 competitors, this drag race could potentially bring $2,800 to the winner. Everyone competing must enter a $200 fee. All the proceedings go to the winner.
The drag race took place at the far end of the drag strip. The cars had to deal with a bad surface and a whole lot of tar and gravel. As its competitors include some really sick 5-second cars, the Tesla, at least on paper, did not have a chance. However, thanks to all-wheel drive and smart traction systems, it actually matched some of the cars, finally fighting for the grand prize.
Although the guy from Tesla Racing Channel launched it to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, the one in the dialed up pickup was very close finally overtaking the Tesla Model S only a few tenths of a second before the ⅛ mile mark. All in all, a good and a nice fight this one. Tesla did lose, but consider that this guy drove a stock unit, while that pickup thing was anything but stock.
