Can the Surf beat Karma to the Beach?

The 2013 Fisker Surf.

Introducing The Exciting Fisker Surf!

Updated October 21, 2018

Eco friendly auto maker Fisker is riding high with the accolades of its latest zero emissions vehicle the Karma. With sales steadily climbing, Fisker decided to venture a little further into the wading pool, and create another somewhat stunning vehicle. Fisker introduced the world to the Surf. Earlier this year the Surf made its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and was greet with mixed opinions. Some were dazzled by its angular lines, and attention to detail, while other seemed to let the name throw off their overall judgment of the car. Either way it’s all environmental business as usual with any Fisker product.

2013 Fisker Surf 1

The 2013 Fisker Surf basically shares the Karma’s reinforced space frame design underneath those flowing lines of angular exclusivity. The rear end of this car is huge, providing plenty of space where it’s needed. Fisker went a little too far when designing the rear end of the Surf. The lines of the rear fascia seem to clash with each other, rather than meld seamlessly. It’s small rear window may be an issue when it comes to production of this concept, but of course Fisker will have that covered. Even though it hasn’t reached final stages, there will be a touch screen that will be fashioned into the dash, and it entail rear facing cameras that not only aide the driver while reversing, but also provide clear wide angled views of cars that are passing by on the road. So it’s safe to say that the 2013 Fisker Surf is really a Karma Wagon, but it still doesn’t explain the name. Well that definition was readily available for those who needed by none other than Henrik Fisker himself. This car represents those who are environmentally friendly, aware of their surroundings, and want to drive a car that is as beautiful as the world around them. Okay, so that explains that idea.

2013 Fisker Surf 2

The 2013 Fisker Surf will be powered by the same Zero Emissions technology like the Karma had. The Lithium Ion battery will be the epicenter of power for the Surf, and driving on this alone will only get you about 50 miles. It sounds bad, but it gets better. There are two electric motors that, when combined with the battery, the Solar Panels that are built into the roof, and a GM generator, (For when the battery is spent.) can push the Surf an extra 300 miles. All of this power will of course shuttle its driver around town in the finest leather seating, decorated with brushed Aluminum, and wood trim. Technology for the 2013 Fisker Surf is still TBA, for the most part, drivers who are familiar with the Karma will expect the same level of tech that’s in the Karma. After it’s all said and done, the Surf is looking to be priced around the $90,000+ range. Typical for a Luxury EV.

The 2013 Fisker Surf is nothing short of amazing, but it leaves a few things to ponder. If the world is looking to lessen the usage of fossil fuels, and eventually loosen the grip importing oil, why are these automakers creating EV’s that only the rich & famous can afford? I mean is the common man stuck in hybrid, or do we all hope to win the Lotto, and then join the ranks of the Elite EV Clique?

About Calvin Escobar

The Car scene is so diverse Where I come from, most enthusiasts recognize the amazing engineering (particularly the engines). The bulk of the ridicule originates from the manner in which many of the vehicles are modded/maintained. Thus, the jokes and or hate tends to be aimed more at the owner rather than the machine. All of which makes seeing properly sorted old Toyota's and Hondas at car meets, auto shows, and track days all the more refreshing.
