The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport. EcoBoost Go!!!
Updated August 26, 2012
The Ford Motor Company has been producing Explorers for just over 20 years now, and they are still wildly popular by any, and all standards. So with that said Ford decided to change not only the look the of the Explorer, but also give a little something to the motor as well.
In 2011 the Ford Explorer got a major facelift. One that would push the Explorer name well into the future. A severely swept back windshield, well rounded head lights, softer curved edges, and wheels to match the entire ensemble, the Explorer was an instant hit with new buyers, and original Ford lovers as well. Now, the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport was a vehicle that was tooled, and measured for quite a bit of time before it was given the go ahead to be produced.
The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport, is the equivalent of the Ford F150 Lightning, but with more room, better handling technology, and overall just a better look. The standard 2012 Explorer comes with a 290hp V6 engine that is attached to a six (6) speed variable automatic transmission, which is available in either FWD, or AWD options. For 2013 Ford made the final decision to add a turbo to this great looking vehicle.
The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport has been blessed with the same motor that comes with the 2013 Ford Taurus, a 3.5L EcoBoost V6, but this one has been turbocharged. Ford executives claimed that it makes at least 365hp, and 350lb ft of torque. The gas mileage of course, had to be considered and the 2013 Explorer Sport averages out 18.67mpg. The official numbers are 16mpg city, and 22mpg highway. After looking into the Sport’s competition, the gas mileage is better than the Dodge Durango R/T, and Range Rover Sport.
The 2013 Ford Explorer Sport seems to be the next best thing in affordable, great looking, and powerful SUV’s. With the Ecoboost technology under the hood, and with Ford’s premium quality factor, everywhere else the Explorer Sport will have no problem with keeping ahead of the competition. Pricing for the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport starts at around $40,000 which in all reality isn’t bad for what ford is offering in next years model.
