The 2014 Audi A3 Quattro Clubsport Concept?
Updated August 12, 2014
Today we’re going to open our eyes up to a car that has been recently released into the automotive world. It hails from the German manufacturing plant of Audi, and the car is the 2014 Audi A3 Quattro Clubsport concept. Now as far as concepts goes, this car looks more like a daily driver than a car that doesn’t actually have a solid future of ever being built.
So, the Audi A3 is a rather small car to say the least. Smaller than an A4, and possibly about the same size as a Toyota Corolla, but with one major difference. It’s an Audi. The 2014 Audi A3 Quattro Clubsport is a car that has no real definition. It’s compact, it’s quick, it’s fearlessly fast, and above all it has the advantage of being able to drive with all four of it’s wheels being planted firmly on the ground. The Clubsport concept is one of those types of cars that you would find in a tuning magazine, being built by a bunch of guys who have been avid Audi lovers all of the natural lives. In this case, Audi just seemed to beat them all to the punch.
This concept car, and I use that term loosely, has a ton of technology, power, engineering, and above all, German craftsmanship helping it look as good as it does. As car lovers ourselves, we’re all to familiar with the well known Audi Scowl. That look the RS, S model lines carry when they drive down the road, growling, and snarling at old ladies as they try to cross the street faster than their poor weary hearts can beat. This A3 is no different, in fact that menacing look never looked better on a car this size. Backing up the mean mug of the A3 Clubsport is a 2.5L, 5 cylinder, award winning, turbo charged engine that pumps out 525Hp, and over 440lb feet of torque. Now, some of you may be saying that, that torque number sounds low, but keep in mind that this is an Audi, and just about all of that torque is readily available in the low RPM range. Making it a very fast car off the line. 0 to 62mph times reside at a mere 3.6 seconds, while the TFSI engine will accomplish a top speed of 195mph. Not bad, not bad at all.
Interior wise, the A3 has been blessed with a dark color palette, that seems to work very well contrasting colors. All Black Alcantara, only gets broken up when your eyes are lucky enough to notice the Grey seat piping, and the Sepang Blue stitching. Aside from the seats, the driver will become a part of a symphony of technology that either begs to be watched, or touched. A seven inch monitor commands the inner working of this ship, as it sits atop the center stack. MMI Navigation, AM/FM/XM Stereo, CD Player, Blue-tooth, USB & Auxiliary ports all seem to have their own place in the dashboard. Dual climate control, cruise control, not that you really need it, and a few other buttons are there for the pushing, and twisting. Behind the steering wheel is an instrument cluster that provides not only the basics of how fast your are going, but also let’s you know just about everything else that’s going on under the hood of the A3. Other than the electronics, the only other feature, or item a driver would need to worry about is how fast he, or she wants to go.
On the outside of the 2014 Audi A3 Quattro Clubsport, you have nothing but pure unadulterated power moves being had here. The body of the A3 is low, and mean. The stance is accentuated by the seriously Bad Ass 19 inch wheels that it rolls around on. Fourteen inch disc brakes can be seen hiding behind those fabulous wheels. And while we just happened to be on the subject of stopping power, Audi let the cat out of the bag when they announced that this little A3 Quattro was coming equipped with an electronically controlled Air Brake. Kind of like the one you would see on the Veyron, or the P1. Yes, people yes!!! I was surprised to hear about this tidbit of news, but then to see it in action was utterly breath taking. Helping the Air Brake is a specialized computer than sends more power to the rear wheels when braking. Thus improving high speed braking by more than 35%. Simply outstanding, and amazing is all I can say. Continuing on with the exterior of the car, you find sharp angles that help the aggressive body style of the A3 remain just that, aggressive. There will be no mistaking this car for anything else on the road, unless it’s another Audi, and even then, the individual classes have their own distinction about them.
There is a lot more that could be said about this concept Audi A3, but I don’t want to bore you with more information than your mind can handle, and besides I’m getting a little hungry. The Audi A3 Quattro as I mentioned earlier looks nothing like a concept car, but more like a very well built tuner. My personal thought is that, this could, and I think should wind up being a, “Made to order” type of vehicle. Or Audi should at least make about 100 of them world wide, and then sell them for about $45,000 to $52,000 dollars a pop. This way, you won’t lose too much money on the deal, and it’ll inspire the likes of BMW, Mercedes, and maybe someone else to try to outdo the company that keeps making these angry ass cars all the time. Well, if this pumped up, version of the Audi A3 comes to life, I’ll be waiting to take it for a drive on the streets of NYC where, snarling cars, that can pack a mean punch will definitely be noticed. Until then, I’ll catch you on the next segment. I’m gone.
