The 2015 Mazda MX-5. Shedding Some Pounds for The Long Haul.
Updated June 23, 2014
Mazda has let it be known that their MX-5 will not be a forgotten model in the upcoming years. They accomplished this by releasing photos of some slightly older versions of their MX-5 from a few years back. But in all reality the look of the MX-5 for 2015 isn’t the main focus this time around, it’s the motor, and drive train that needs to be addressed.
The 2015 Mazda MX-5 will pretty much remain the same as it has been since it’s last revamp earlier this year. Smooth, but somewhat aggressive lines will continue to attract the wide variety of customers like it has been doing for just about 10 years now. The peppy little two seater has been wowing fans for the longest time now, and those same fans have been wondering what’s new? The MX-5 has been one of Mazda’s few true to form cars that have rivaled the RX-7’s greatness, and the now the leaked information about the 2015 Mazda MX-5 has a little more than a few ears listening.
As I mentioned before the 2015 Mazda MX-5’s bodywill remain unchanged (allegedly) but there’s been
rumors of a new inspiring 1.3L, turbo-charged engine that will possibly pump out over 200hp, and 189lb feet of torque. How will this be achieved, you ask? Well, by improving the overall weight of the MX-5, of course. The 2015 Mazda MX-5 will be reported to be way less than it’s normal portly weight of 2,400 pounds. If you take a moment to think about it, Mazda is producing a limited run of some GT4 race cars in Europe that have been praised for it’s low weight, quick reflexes, and overall gracefulness on the track, it’s no wonder why Mazda hasn’t done this any sooner. Various sources have speculated that the MX-5 will be anywhere from 1,876 pounds to around 2,150 pounds. This new shedding of pounds will be a welcome treat for all of those die hard MX-5/Miata fans around the world.
In other news about the MX-5, Mazda has borrowed a few books from their competitors, on the “Principles of Happy Customers”, by initiating a slew of customizing options for customers to choose from. The specifics about this are still up in the are, and completely under wraps, but if the 2015 Mazda MX-5 comes with the options, that of a BMW 3 Series, or even a MINI Cooper, there will be no ends of customers vying for a new MX-5.
