The Best Muscle Car Of Them All Might Be The Galpin Auto Sport Mustang Rocket

It has a fancy grille and 750 HP – meet the Galpin Rocket Ford Mustang

Updated September 3, 2018

Muscle cars are hot once again. With a new Camaro lurking just around the corner, the insane Challenger Hellcat and an all-new Mustang, it seems this is a nice time for muscle cars. Chevrolet revealed that they’ve delivered the 500,000th unit of the Camaro just a few weeks ago and the only question that can be asked now is which one is better. Galpin Auto Sport, which you may know from the show Pimp my Ride, claims that their Mustang Rocket is the best Muscle car around. Given the evidence, we’d say it’s hard to argue that point.

Revealed in concept form at the 2014 Los Angeles Motor Show, the Galpin Rocket clearly is an insane take on the iconic muscle car. Galpin Auto Sport teamed with Henrik Fisker on this project and the cooperation allegedly started when Henrik Fisker himself approached Beau Boeckmann at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours de’Elegance. He showed Boeckmann his drawings for the new car and convinced the Galpin Auto Sport manager that he was the man for the job. What resulted is a beefy-looking Mustang that appears to have never missed leg, arm, back or chest day.

However, the changes reach much deeper than that. Every panel on this car, with the exception of the roof and doors, is made out of carbon fiber. The weight has been brought down, the stiffness increased, and the Galpin Rocket started to feel a bit more like a European sports car and a bit less like an unrefined American muscle car. The 2015 Mustang is nothing like the old Mustangs. This one has independent rear suspension, a substantial weight reduction, intelligent adjustable dampers and other driving aids from the pages of racing science fiction.

The new body is beautiful – there’s no question about it. However, we can see the influence of British cars (like the enormous Jag-like front or the “Astonish” rear fenders), but perhaps that was to be expected seeing as Henrik Fisker is the guy who made the Aston Martin DB9 and Vanquish. He also made that beautiful Thunderbolt concept with GAS, but it seems that Aston Martin may sue him for it. They claim that he stole design for the car from them, whatever that might mean. Nevertheless, the Mustang Rocket is not a stolen idea and it has a monstrous engine which makes it hotter than the Challenger Hellcat or any other stock muscle car for that matter.

Employing a supercharger on a Ford-sourced V8, Galpin Auto Sport succeeded in squeezing out 725 HP from the engine. The menacing power is enough to propel the car to a speed of 62 mph in 3.5 seconds while the top speed is around 186 mph. Honestly, we thought it would do more – and perhaps it can – but Galpin did not necessarily want to reveal all the details about the car, either.

The full-on tuning of the Mustang is evident here, but it seems that Galpin doesn’t just want to call this car a tuned Mustang. It is a coach-built car with tech sourced from the 2015 Mustang. And we concur with that. It is a newly designed vehicle, with improved suspension, improved chassis, all new exterior panels and beautifully crafted interior.

All of this means that Henrik Fisker and Galpin did whatever they could to make the car stand out and to make it much more exclusive than the “normal” Mustang. This is exactly why the Galpin Rocket is a six-figure car. While it might be stupid to buy a $100k Mustang, it wouldn’t be stupid if you bought a $100k Galpin Rocket Mustang. You’ll get a new Bassani Xhaust exhaust system, styling touches sourced from the 1968 Shelby GT500 and modern touch of new ‘Stang. What’s more, you’ll probably even be able to service your monster Rocket Mustang at your local Ford dealership, though you may want to keep an eye on your investment while it’s in the shop – just to be sure.

About Safet Satara

I do not have spare time. All there is is car time. 12 years and counting. I am a Central European gearhead, but you are probably thinking - aaa a disposable Borg drone! Well, actually, I like to dress up like James Bond too. The only thing I need to be him is an Aston Martin (and I love DBS more than DB5 because, reasons). That's something I guess.
