The Ducati Diavel Diesel: Post-Apocalyptic Limited Edition Series

The Ducati Diavel Gets The Post-Apocalyptic Treatment!

Updated August 17, 2018

Ducati is no stranger to collaborations, and this time ‘round they’ve teamed up with Diesel – the Italian clothing brand, just in case you thought this was a diesel engine. And very much like Ducati’s previous collaborations with companies like Blundstone or Italia, this one is going into a limited production run for 666 lucky customers. Unsurprisingly, it’s called the Ducati Diavel Diesel, and it’s a fierce sports cruiser that should appeal to anyone who likes a touch of the post-apocalyptic between their legs.

The overall design was penned by Ducati’s in-house Design Center and by Diesel’s Creative Director of Diesel Licenses, Andrea Rosso. To pull up an exact quote, the design aesthetic encompassed the “hyperkinetic dynamism of a post-apocalyptic, retro-futuristic world.” – Do with that information what you will. You could nitpick about the practicality of the Diavel in a post-apocalyptic environment, but if you wanted a motorcycle that has a degree of comfort and a pinch of sportiness in the same package, you probably couldn’t go wrong with the Diavel. Until it breaks. Then you’d regret the choice immediately and wish that you’d opted for the Honda Cub.

But this is a design exercise that’s all about showing off the best of both companies. It’s not about what happens after the apocalypse. In that respect, the collaboration is a resounding success. It’s edgy without being over the top, and the exposed fixings and welds are a nice touch. There are equal parts Ducati and equal parts Diesel invested into it, such as the red highlights on the Brembo brake calipers, the dash and the air intake covers for Ducati, as well as the heavy duty black stylistics and that beautiful leather saddle which screams the Diesel brand.

The full details include the hand brushed stainless steel tank cover, the new front cowl and saddle cover, anodized air intakes, the red methacrylate covered lateral air intake covers, the red LCD dash, Zircotec ceramic coated exhaust, machined silencers, the exquisitely upholstered saddle, the new machined mirrors, and five exclusive red linkages in the chain, as well as a few other nice details.

Ducati boss Claudio Domenicali had this to say about the finished article: “The collaboration with Diesel enabled us to explore original stylistic and technical aspects whilst staying within the Ducati brand and fully respecting its values. In this case we worked with Diesel on an already uniquely original bike like the Diavel and the result was surprising to put it mildly. The details characterizing the Diavel Diesel cannot fail to captivate connoisseurs of special bikes but also people from different walks of life, such as fashion. It’s always stimulating for us to move outside the world of motorcycling and widen our brand’s areas of interest.”

If you fancy one of these for your collection, they’ll be going on sale this April – but they’ll be limited to a special run of only 666 units. So there’ll be 666 numbers of these beasts up for grabs, and you’ll be pleased to know that they’ll come with the rear stand and a bike cover as standard. Important gear for the apocalypse, I’m sure you’ll agree?
