The Long Awaited 2016 Volvo XC90 T8, Mix Of A Power Coupled And Great Fuel Economy
Published February 17, 2015
It has taken over 10 years to redesign the vehicle; and now, the detailed specs of the 2016 Volvo XC90 T8 have come out. The design team has put ample effort into the rehash procedure to not disappoint.
New plug-in electrification compatibility:
The XC90 T8 is the only Volvo designed for plug-in electrification compatibility. The Twin Engine hybrid SUV employs an electric motor, supercharging and turbo-charging, to enhance efficiency. The new SUV is expected to deliver the performance of a luxury SUV, except with emission levels that even small hybrid cars fail to match.
According to Volvo, the XC90 T8 will do from 0 to 62 mph in a reasonably quick 5.9 seconds, which is especially nippy for a 2.5-ton vehicle. The 60-KW (82 HP) electric motor powers the rear wheels, supplies an instant surge of torque. The electric motor is driven by a 9.2-KWH lithium-ion battery pack.
Superior Engine performance:
The anticipated output of 400 horse-powers and torque of 472 pound-feet have been confirmed by Volvo. The XC90 T8 is able to attain CO2 emissions levels of up to 59 grams per kilometer on the European test cycle. The estimated fuel economy that the XC90 T8 can deliver (based on the U.S. driving cycle) is approximately 59 MPGe. Volvo says that the lithium-ion battery pack of the XC90 T8 will hold enough charge so that this 7-seater SUV can travel 40 kilometers (25 miles) in the zero-emission mode before requiring a battery recharge.
The 2016 Volvo XC90 is the first car to be based on the Volvo’s pioneering Scalable Platform Architecture. This design guarantees that the Twin Engine technology does not compromise luggage or passenger space in the XC90’s stylishly chosen cabin from the battery pack. An audio system for the XC90 is supplied by Bowers & Wilkins. The British supplier also makes audio systems for luxury sports car brand Maserati. The XC90 will be supplied with 19 speakers.
5 driving modes:
There will be five driving modes to choose from in the Volvo XC90 T8. Drivers can either access these modes by a touch-screen on the dashboard or a scroll wheel on the centre console. Here is a brief description of what you get the vehicle to do in these driving modes:
1. Hybrid: In this mode the SUV will automatically switch between the electric motor and the 4-cylinder Drive-E engine to bring about the utmost fuel economy.
2. Pure electric: Once the high-voltage battery is completely charged, it acts as the car’s exclusive energy source in the pure electric mode.
3. Power mode: In this mode, the SUV delivers the collective performance of the electric motor and the combustion engine. This combination puts forward superior torque at lower revs.
4. AWD: This mode permits gentle maneuvering with all-wheel traction. The benefit of being able to pick this mode manually is that you can apply it when required, or select to save energy for later.
5 Save: This mode lets you “freeze” the battery level and conserve it for later use. Also, if the battery is low, the combustion engine can be used to charge the battery for later use.
