The Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series. The Pheonix Has Risen Again.
Updated July 21, 2014
Good Day Everyone, and welcome back to another great segment of autowise.com. Today we are going to tantalize the senses with the news of the “Hot like Fire” 2012 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series. The new AMG Black Series SLS seems to want a lot of things out of life, and that’s a little odd being that it’s a car.
So let’s begin, the 2012 Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series is poised to be one of the pinnacle pieces of machinery to ever role out of a MB assembly plant. Now, before we can officially get started, we have to recognize the fiery debacle about a month, or so ago when the prototype SLS burned up the Nurburgring while performing some important tests. That one instance probably didn’t provide the designers at the MB camp too much pertinent information, but regardless of what took place that day MB found a sure fire way to make a come back. That powerful come back has now come in the solid form of a very menacing looking vehicle, no matter what color it appears in.
The new Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series has made a full recovery, and is now looking to take over the roads like any AMG product should. To begin, lets quickly discuss how this fabulous car looks. In some of the pics shown the new SLS AMG Black Series is a ruthless looking monster that seems to have an air of high class distinction. What this means is, the broad, and wide open grille has an almost nostalgic look to it, while the aggressive lower fascia styling, almost contradicts how graceful it is. The long, and wide bonnet that this particular model is known for is still ever present, and what’s more is that there is now more unyielding power to let loose on all of those unsuspecting souls who know nothing of what this beast is capable of. (We’ll get to the power soon.) The overall shape of the SLS hasn’t been tampered with too, too much. The Gullwing doors still remain as one of the main focal points on the car.
What AMG has also done with this newly formed monster is borrow some styling cues from it’s track born brethren the SLS GT3. Where once before were naked spaces of ample opportunity, now sit canards, and sharp angles made of Carbon Fiber, and other light weight materials. The rear end of the SLS has some more goodies that can be swapped out for bigger and better enhancements, that will allow the Hooning of this posh bringer of power, to look that much sweeter.
A set of mix matched 19”, and 20” all Matte Black wheels sit snugly under the slightly pulled fenders of the SLS AMG. With that being mentioned, now we can move onto my favorite part, the engine. The Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Black Series has been fitted with a 6.2L V8 that is producing over 620hp, and over 567lb feet of torque. By MB standards, this is 39 hp more than the proposed 2013 SLS will have. Zero to sixty times have been pinpointed to a mere 3.6 seconds, and the top speed is around 196MPH. Being that AMG borrowed exterior parts from the SLS GT3 race car, it’s safe to say that they went balls deep, and tweaked the Hell out of the motor, and exhaust. For those of you who don’t know what a highly tuned Mercedes Benz exhaust sounds like, think of the combination of a 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 sound, mixed in with a few drops of Harley Davidson, and then add a pinch of tuned Subaru Impreza, give it a 100cc shot of adrenaline, and there you have the ultimate concoction of raw power, and heart pounding ridiculousness.
If anything at all can be taken from this spectacle of man’s pursuit of the fine line between fine elegance, and controllable chaos, the SLS AMG is the car that will prove that that line exists. The key to getting there is your right foot, and new set of underwear just in case you can’t handle the truth of it all. This car will be seen in many places in the coming months, and it’s aggressive good looks, and styling will keep everyone wanting to know more about it.
