The Ultimate Muscle Truck, the 2015 Hennessey Velociraptor
Updated July 20, 2016
The pickup truck has come a long way since the bare bones versions that appeared during the first few decades of the 20th century. The first pickups were built on car frames with a modified rear body to hold a large wooden panel held together with steel straps. While they were barely equipped and a bit odd looking, they served their purpose, well for the most part.
While Henry Ford has been credited with offering the first factory-assembled pickup in 1925 created by adding a pickup bed to a Model T frame, a year earlier, the Dodge Brothers were busy building their own pickup truck offering.
The Dodge Brothers teamed up with Graham Brothers to take a 3/4 ton utility truck and turn it into something much closer to the modern version of the pickup. In four years, less than 2,400 of these heavy-duty pickups were built and sources say that only one survived, somewhere, they think, maybe.

In the late 70s, Dodge was also the first to offer a so-called “muscle truck” with its Dodge Warlock that debuted in 1976. This “adult toy” was made for those worried about horsepower instead of how many horses it could haul. However, it did haul a shortened version of the horse’s close cousin, commonly called jack. . . In 1979, the Warlock was available with a 440, you know, the one that powered the Superbird? Unfortunately, times changed and like many muscle cars of the era and the Warlock was discontinued after the 1979 model year.
Ford threw its hat in the ring in 1985 with the 5.8 liter HO F-150, which was only produced for one year. It was not until 1993 that the Lightning hit the showroom and was popular for quite a few years from 1993 to 1995 and again in 1999 to 2004. It was 2010 when Ford realized that the muscle trucks were back and they needed a contender. Ford appointed its SVT team to create a high-performance F-150 known as the Raptor that could tear up the back roads and off-road courses with amazing ferocity yet still give you power and performance along with luxury appointments for every day driving. For 2015, a Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCrew has been chosen to transform into the 2015 Hennessey Velociraptor.
The Story Behind the 2015 Hennessey Velociraptor
Since 1991, John Hennessey has been making vehicles that go fast go faster and hot looking vehicles look even hotter. This performance genius has taken some of the world’s fastest cars and creating four-wheeled rockets that will turn heads no matter where you go. With the Raptor temporarily off the market, Hennessey did not want to pass up the chance to create a new Velociraptor from Ford’s all-new, 700 lbs. lighter aluminum body F-150 so he simply chose another version to transform, the 2015 F-150 FX4 SuperCrew.
Named the 2015 Hennessey VelociRaptor 600 Supercharged F-150, Hennessey fans know that the 600 indicates the 600 horsepower this the juiced up factory 5.0-liter V8 is putting to the ground for you to enjoy. The increase in horsepower comes from a Roots-type supercharger with 8 psi of boost, a high-flow air induction system, stainless steel exhaust, upgraded fuel injectors all dialed in with Hennessey’s engine calibration management.
2015 Hennessey Velociraptor Does More than Just Go Fast
While people want the 2015 Hennessey Velociraptor because it will blow the doors off many high-performance sports cars, there is much more to this awesome truck than the 600 horsepower generated under its hood. Hennessey also added 33 inch BF Goodrich tires mounted on 17-inch Hennessey wheels, the option of upgraded off-road suspension, upgraded bumpers LED light bars, Brembo brakes and much, much more. The FX4 itself is quite well equipped with a choice of nearly any option including navigation, leather, power sliding rear window, moonroof and MyFord Touch with a premium audio system. This 2015 Hennessey Velociraptor is so nice you may never want to get out of it.
When it comes to high-performance, the team of Ford and Hennessey brings it. With only 500 of these 2015 Hennessey Velociraptor super muscle trucks scheduled for production, they can only be ordered through a Hennessey authorized Ford dealer. With a starting price of $73,500, which includes the cost of the 2015 F-150 FX4, these trucks certainly are not cheap, but if you want to go fast, be super comfortable and look good doing it, this awesome high-performance off-road truck is well worth every single penny, and then some.
