Twin-Turbo V8 Miata Pushes 1000-HP
Another Well-Designed LS Swap
We have seen V8 swapped Miatas before, but none quite like this. After all, in such a tiny lightweight car, if you can push 500 horsepower you are in good shape. Of course, the 5.7-L twin-turbo V8 is an LS1. Poking out the top you can see the set of Garrett GTW3684 turbochargers and their air intakes. The pros at Australian publication Street Machine Magazine were the masterminds behind this little bitty beast, and had the custom set up designed by PowerHouse Engines. All in all, the car comes in at around 2500 lbs.
To help the car handle that kind of power, changes to the frame and structure were made. This Miata is now equipped with a chassis-strengthening roll cage, 4-point safety harnesses, and a four-link rear suspension. You may need to rethink what you know about Miata handling, because this one is going to feel a bit different.
Team Carnage completed the MX5.7 in a timely manner, and immediately rushed off to test it on the track. The team proudly documented the entire process, and put together a three-part video series for you. You can find them listed below. Each video is around 35 minutes, so get comfortable and binge all three. I promise its worth your time, no Miata has ever sounded so good.
