Valerie Thompson: The World’s Fastest Female Motorcycle Racer

Updated August 14, 2018

Valerie Thompson has just been crowned the world’s fastest female motorcycle racer after hitting a top speed of 313 mph at Bonneville. This incredible feat took place earlier on this month at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials, and Thompson managed to maintain an average speed of 304 mph aboard the “7” Streamliner, designed by Denis Manning.

NHRA Pro Stock Racer Thompson flew across the salt through her mandatory license-qualification runs, before clocking exit speeds of 294 mph, 304 mph, and an incredible 313 mph. The latter of which won her the Top Speed of the Event Award, and crowned her the World’s Fastest Female Motorcycle Racer.

In an interview, Thompson said: “I’ve dreamed about this since I first started racing. This never would have happened without Denis Manning and team owners, John Jans and Joe Harralson. I can’t thank them and the entire Team ‘7’ Racing crew members enough for all their hard work during the competition.”

The “7” Streamliner designer, Denis Manning added: “Valerie has quickly adjusted from racing a conventional motorcycle to driving a streamliner with twice the horsepower, she is a natural racer. More importantly, she reached our goal of exceeding 300 mph on the 3-mile short course vs. the 5-mile run-up streamliners normally require to reach top speed.”

Thompson, 49, a seven-time land speed record holder, also has plans to enter her BMW S1000RR into the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle class for 2017. Already a member of the Bonneville 200 MPH Club, the Mojave Magnum 200 MPH Club, the ECTA 200 MPH Club, the Texas Mile 200 MPH Club and the first female member of the Colorado Mile Club, it’s no wonder that she has already been dubbed “America’s Queen Of Speed” – and we expect to see even more record breaking achievements from the rider in the near future.

The Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials is probably the most prestigious motorcycle land speed racing event in the world, and officially endorsed by both the AMA and the FIM. With that in mind, Valerie Thompson is most certainly and undoubtedly the world’s fastest female motorcycle racer. And we applaud this incredible achievement. See her in action in the video below!

I’ve done a bit of work here and there in the industry – I’ve even ridden a few bikes for actual money but what it comes down to is this: I ride bikes, build bikes and occasionally crash ‘em too. I like what I like but that certainly doesn’t make my opinion any more valid than yours…
