Vanguard Motorcycles: America’s New Bike Manufacturer!

The First Model From Vanguard Motorcycles Has Been Unveiled

Updated August 16, 2018

The newly established USA-based bike manufacturer Vanguard Motorcycles have pulled the covers off of their very first planned production bike. It’s called the “Roadster” and it certainly is different. The formal unveiling of the Roadster and two more models from Vanguard is expected to happen at the New York Motorcycle Show between the 9th and 11th of December in New York City. If you happen to be in the area, we recommend you visit the show and their booth for a first look at the range from America’s all new motorcycle manufacturer.

Many of you won’t instantly recognize the name “Vanguard” but that’s ok. They’re new, and they’re here to make a statement…whether they want to or not, it’s clear that the Vanguard Roadster motorcycle is going to pique a lot of interest. We don’t know what the rest of their model lineup will feature, but if it’s anything like the Roadster, it’s going to receive some serious attention. Why? Well, it’s a mixed bag of ideas, with some odd juxtapositions, but something about it works.

Despite the modern design aesthetic and borderline futuristic silhouette, there’s a good old fashioned S&S V-twin engine sitting in pride of place at the heart of this machine. It might seem a little out of place considering the rest of the design, but when you’re an American motorcycle manufacturer, it would almost be rude not to tick that big V-twin box. The 1,917cc (117ci) X-Wedge engine boasts 110 lbs – ft of peak torque, and looks the business.

Talking about the engine, you might notice that the Vanguard Roadster shares a few certain similarities — like the engine choice and design aesthetic – with the range of motorcycle from Confederate. One of Vanguard’s founders, Edward Jacobs, used to be a designer for Confederate, and he seems to have retained some of the Confederate design philosophy and brought it over to Vanguard.

The Vanguard Roadster motorcycle is still very much a prototype, and we can expect a few things to change before the production models roll off of the factory floor. However, we hope it keeps some of its quirkier features, like the huge LCD dashboard, the integrated exhaust system, and the lack of mirrors in favor of rear view cameras. We really hope that the accompanying hardware remains unchanged too. The Roadster pictured here comes with Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, Metzler tires, and a LED lighting.

Depending on your own tastes, you’ll probably either love or hate the Vanguard Roadster. No matter what side of the fence you’re on, however, you’d be a fool not to appreciate the small details that adorn this motorcycle: from the full metal bodywork, with carbon fiber accents, to the fluid reservoirs and awesome rear disc wheel assembly.

The Vanguard Roadster is set to be released to the general public in 2018, with a respectable price tag of $29,995.

I’ve done a bit of work here and there in the industry – I’ve even ridden a few bikes for actual money but what it comes down to is this: I ride bikes, build bikes and occasionally crash ‘em too. I like what I like but that certainly doesn’t make my opinion any more valid than yours…
