Vintage Shelby Cobra and Daytona Square Off in Epic Race
Published March 13, 2016
Goodwood Road & Racing is known for its collectible car spectator events, and the 73rd Goodwood Members Meeting was no exception with Shelby Cobra and Daytona dominating the featured race. While just seeing the array of classic cars primed for high speeds is enough to make the event spectacular, the showdown that ensued was one of epic proportions.
Right off the bat, the red and white #13 Shelby Cobra took the lead, and it seemed no one would even be competitive. Then, the green #23 Daytona coupe came into play to provide a real challenge. While we won’t reveal which of these classic Shelby cars took the ultimate prize, it was a race for the record books in its intense excitement that you can relive in part through the video footage below.
After all was said and done, the contenders put away their competitive natures to enjoy a good time. As the Daytona’s driver James Cottingham noted, “After the race, we got changed and headed straight out to the party. We had a few drinks and really enjoyed the band – that’s one of the unique things about Goodwood, they look after you so well and put on such a good show. The entertainers that were there, the band, the firework finale with music… it’s just signature Goodwood. You couldn’t see or repeat it anywhere else.”
