The Peak of Luxury Off-Road Camping: The EarthRoamer XV-HD

At $1.5 Million, the EarthRoamer XV-HD is Packed With Features and Tech

EarthRoamer XV-HD

When most people take to the road for a mobile home camping trip, it’s usually with a tow behind. Large and unwieldy RVs keep you from going to more exotic and interesting places. The EarthRoamer XV-HD looks to buck that trend with an all in one design. Built from the ground up to tackle off-road areas without losing comfort, this monster camper seeks to start a new trend of very capable mobile homes.

Coming in at a hefty price of $1.5 million, this EarthRoamer vehicle is packing the latest in features. Starting with the Ford F750 chassis and its turbocharged 6.7L V8 diesel is a great start. This provides ample power for the heavy duty four-wheel-drive adventures the XV-HD is meant for. Coming from the Colorado-based company EarthRoamer, its origins are in the right place for off-road testing.

Nearly 20 years of building luxurious but capable off-road vehicles makes EarthRoamer’s latest offering very exciting. Air spring shocks in the rear assist the Fox suspension in giving the XV-HD a smooth ride. A full foot of ground clearance also comes in part from 46-in Michelin XVL tires. It comes equipped to get around in all sorts of terrain with generous LED lighting as well as a 30,000 lb. hydraulic winch.

What the 6.7L V8 turbocharged diesel engine lacks in speed with such a heavy vehicle, it makes up for in raw power. The measly 330 horsepower on tap is paired with 725 pound-feet of torque. That all flows to the huge wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission. You may not see an XV-HD pulling fast passes in the left lane, but winding up mountain trails is not a problem.

In total, the EarthRoamer XV-HD comes in at a massive 35 feet in length. The living quarters on the inside come complete with the full home away from home experience. Heated floors and a fully insulated body keep occupants cozy on highly mobile adventures. A full washroom, as well as a washer and dryer for clothes, helps keep campers clean on the go.

A 20,000-watt lithium-ion battery bank works with a set of 2100-watt roof-mounted solar panels. Meanwhile, the EarthRoamer XV-HD is capable of carrying 250 gallons of fresh water, 115 gallons of diesel, and 125 gallons of black water. This means that campers with an EarthRoamer XV-HD can disappear into the wilderness for days and days on end for continuous adventures.

Production models are rolling through their build stages as we speak with delivery coming as late as early 2019. In order to secure one of these $1.5 million behemoths, a small deposit of 25 percent is required. For those keeping track, that’s $375,000 up front for what looks to be the most comfortable and capable off-road mobile home experience to date.

About Chris Riley

I have been wrecking cars for as long as I've been driving them, but I keep coming back for more. Two wheels or four, I'm all in. I founded GearHeads.org and then built and ran AutoWise.com until selling it to Lola Digital Media in 2020. I look forward to watching AutoWise grow as part of the AllGear group.
