This month, the 2022 KTM 890 Duke R lands on showroom floors with 121 HP and 99 Nm of torque, beating out its predecessor by 16 HP and 12 Nm.
The new 890 follows the 790’s design and structural cues closely. KTM keeps the Duke’s signature parallel-twin engine configuration and adds bore, stroke, and compression. It also copies the load-bearing steel tubular frame, guiding the bike’s cornering ability.
Enticingly, KTM calls the 890 Duke R the “Super Scalpel” in reference to its agility on the asphalt. It appears the builder will ultimately bear the responsibility for the claims: an extensive suite of braking, traction, and lean control sensors control the way the bike behaves in corners. User-selected ride modes help tell the sensors what to do.
Brakes by Brembo and generous 320mm discs stop the 890 Duke R, and adjustable handlebars help riders in a wide range of body shapes stay comfortable.
